Julia Fiona Roberts born to Betty Lou Bredemus (mother) and Walter Grady Roberts on October 28 the 28th of October, 1967. Roberts is part of the Robertses' fourth generation to reside in the Atlanta area beginning with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. She inherited her father's interest in theater from a young time. When he was an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in several productions in Atlanta. In 1953, he joined the Air Force, and was stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi, he acted in a production together with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in 2005 and welcomed their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. Walter was studying at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In 1957, the couple left the airforce and Walter began studying at Tulane. In 1960 the family moved from Louisiana to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964, Walter along with Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's TV show known as Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was created in the year 1964 and ran for six years. Lelisa Billingsley often referred to as Lisa was born in 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
